Fourth-Grade Me Fell in Love. With
Spelling. Then Sixth-Grade Me Realized I Was Introverted.
Back in fourth grade, I realized I actually enjoyed
spelling. I picked it up by reading whatever I could, such as school textbooks,
cassette labels, newspapers, and even street signs. Our family’s video shop
became my playground, where I devoured every title I could find. VHS, Betamax;
words were the only thing that mattered. If they were there, I read them. When
I switched from 4th to 5th grade at a private school, much to my surprise, I
stumbled upon the children’s library—it was like unlocking a secret video game
level, but instead of cool gear, it was just a lot of words.
It was during my transfer to a public school in 6th
grade that our class advisor called me stupid— simply because I
wasn’t eager to compete. Quiet kids, after all, don’t come with a “look at me”
sign.
"Elyza Has Summoned Me"
Fast forward to now: My little sister asked me to
guide her for Friday’s Bible Spelling Quiz Bee. I said yes. Pray for her
classmates. Literally.
Joking aside, W, did you share quiet moments like
these with your sisters? This journal entry may seem like an internal dialogue,
but really, I’m sharing it with you. I’ll save the 'why W is my favorite letter
and you’re my favorite soul' story for another day. Can’t reveal all my secrets
at once! 😜
